windsock.

we started this morning with a trip outside. i thought i smelled a tiny bit of spring in the air, and was hoping that fresh air and sunshine would bring a peaceful start to our day. olive was eager to explore, but annabelle was ready to go inside the moment we put our coats on and went out. wren hasn't figured out what to do in her snowsuit, and so she sits there immobile until i pick her up. the neighbors in the unit above us have a windsock flying on their porch, and in the wind today it caught everyones eye. we observed it, intrigued, for quite some time. windsock was an important vocab word for us today.

inside again olive was still talking about the "windsock". i suggested we make one and scrambled to find supplies to do such a project. olive helped me cut and rip apart an old pillowcase for our windsock project, while annabelle and wren played next to us with toys. then olive headed into the art room to paint the scraps of fabric on her windsock. at the last minute annabelle decided she wanted to paint too, so i gave her the remainder of the pillowcase to paint on.

after nap olive and wren watched from the window as i hung up the windsock. olive was thrilled to see it blow in the wind the same as the one upstairs. again and again she said "windsock". although later she brought me her regular socks and said "windsock", so that was a little confusing....

So cool. I actually noticed the windsock yesterday and for some reason assumed it was Luna's handiwork.
