playing at the library yesterday.

in and out of baskets.

manni.

the best, fattest, and most patient cat. here he is getting tucked into a blanket by olive. he is constantly pet and poked and hugged by all the girls. sweet manni kitty.

windsock.

we started this morning with a trip outside. i thought i smelled a tiny bit of spring in the air, and was hoping that fresh air and sunshine would bring a peaceful start to our day. olive was eager to explore, but annabelle was ready to go inside the moment we put our coats on and went out. wren hasn't figured out what to do in her snowsuit, and so she sits there immobile until i pick her up. the neighbors in the unit above us have a windsock flying on their porch, and in the wind today it caught everyones eye. we observed it, intrigued, for quite some time. windsock was an important vocab word for us today.

inside again olive was still talking about the "windsock". i suggested we make one and scrambled to find supplies to do such a project. olive helped me cut and rip apart an old pillowcase for our windsock project, while annabelle and wren played next to us with toys. then olive headed into the art room to paint the scraps of fabric on her windsock. at the last minute annabelle decided she wanted to paint too, so i gave her the remainder of the pillowcase to paint on.

after nap olive and wren watched from the window as i hung up the windsock. olive was thrilled to see it blow in the wind the same as the one upstairs. again and again she said "windsock". although later she brought me her regular socks and said "windsock", so that was a little confusing....

conversation with luna.

luna, in extreme excitement, suddenly yells, "hey ara!! look! what's coming out of my butt??!" she pats her fully clothed bum.

me, in extreme worry that i am going to have a big mess to clean up, said, "um. i don't know. what? do you need to go potty?"

luna says, "no. what? whats coming out? i know! a 'gina! i have a 'gina. and you do. you have a 'gina, ara. and boys have a penis."

the end.

snow play.

luna painting.

here is another great video of luna. you might think nothing is happening, but sit tight...her look of surprise and excitement and perfectly scripted exclamation is worth it...

snack time.

snack time with luna, annabelle, and wren. there is a lot of passing of sippy cups and crackers. lots of sharing and "here you go" and trying to feed each other and asking for more, even though there are crackers all over that haven't been eaten yet... and snack time takes forever. we spend a large portion of our morning snacking. or asking to snack. or pretending to snack...

coffee filters, paint, markers, window.

painting.

painting has been a popular activity around here lately. i was inspired by wonderment/waldorf ideas to use watercolors on wet paper with the kids. they love it. liquid watercolors go on so smoothly and quickly saturate the paper, which seems like magic to the girls. and i am now adamant that children should have adult quality art supplies, or at least as close as possible... there is such a difference in their ability and enthusiasm to create when using high pigmented color and actual watercolor paper, opposed to the washed out crayola tray paints and flimsy papers...we are frequenting the "art room" more and more, and enjoying sitting near the sunny window to paint.

children's museum.

this is a trip that luna and wren took to the children's museum with mike. they were really excited about the new clifford the big, red dog exhibit, but also enjoyed meeting a turtle, playing in the baby habitot and crawling around and chasing each other in the ant hill. mike said they were both so well behaved, and that luna was protective of wren and eager to talk to people about her.

moon sand video.

family photos.

after nap today olive was feeling a little sad and missing her mama. she was crying and looking out the window for her, and was having a hard time being consoled. i suggested we do a coloring project for her mom, and then got the idea to print actual photos of her mom for her to color on. (thank goodness for facebook!) Olive was thrilled with this project and was excited every time a new photo came off the printer. Annabelle seemed to enjoy the project at first, but then the photos triggered her memory and she suddenly realized her mom wasn't with her. she began carrying around her photos and doing sad little boo-hoo-hoo cries. it was actually very sweet and amusing...after the girls colored their pictures they made a little gallery in the hallway. as always, the scotch tape was a big hit!

also, check out wren's booty! can you tell we are back in cloth diapers?!
